Portfolio Information

About the Bonavista Portfolio:

This portfolio was produced through the winter of 1999 and the summer of 2000. The project is a study of rural landscape in many of the coastal communites in the Bonvista Bay region of central Newfoundland. The work is largely an exploration of the traditional space that these regions are known for. It also explores the decay of the rural communities as they lose their economy and hence lose a large part of their population. Many of the communites seen in these photographs are slowly losing their old lifestyle as hard economic times fall upon them. This work is dedicated to the many young Newfoundlanders who find themselves leaving their homeland, not entirely of free will, in order to find better, more reliable, enployment.
